Purge & Bleed Valves (SPUV and SBLV Series)
Purge and bleed valves vent trapped liquid or gas from instrument and process piping so a gauge, transmitter or manifold can be drained, removed or calibrated safely. R-LOK supplies two families: the SPUV manual purge valve rated to 4,000 psig (275 bar), and the SBLV bleed valve with a fixed 3/16 in (4.7 mm) OD vent tube.

How each family works
The SPUV purge valve is hand operated. Its knurled cap is mounted permanently on the body and cannot be removed. A wrench turns the cap about a quarter turn from hand-tight to the first closed, leak-tight position.
The SBLV serves manifold valve groups and gauge valves. It opens the pressure path to atmosphere, releasing line pressure before an instrument is serviced. Discharge leaves through a short 3/16 in (4.7 mm) OD tube stub. Both families are packless and pass fluid while open.
Materials and ratings
The SPUV cap, ball and body are 316 stainless to ASTM A479, the spring 304 stainless. Rated 4,000 psig (275 bar) at 100 F (37 C), derated to 3,105 psig (213 bar) at 300 F and 2,500 psig (172 bar) at 600 F (315 C).
The SBLV stem is chrome-plated 316 stainless, the vent tube 316 stainless to ASTM A269, back-stop screw and body 316 stainless to ASTM A479. The orifice is 0.125 in (3.2 mm), Cv 0.25. Metal seats set the ceiling.
Ends, sizes and styles
SPUV end connections come in three types: S for an R-LOK double-ferrule tube fitting, M for NPT male and F for NPT female. Tube ends cover 1/8 to 1/2 in OD, NPT ends 1/8 to 1/2 in, with 6 mm and 8 mm metric ends.
Four body styles are offered: straight carries no suffix, UT is union two-way, ET is elbow and TT is tee. SBLV inlets are male NPT from 1/8 to 3/4 in, with an optional 316 stainless bar handle, ordered by adding -BH.
Standards referenced: Body, cap, ball and stem materials to ASTM A479; vent tube to ASTM A269; NPT threads to ASME B1.20.1; BSPT threads to ISO 7-1, ordered with suffix R.

Frequently asked questions
How is an SPUV order code written?
Positions are series, end type, size, body style, material. End type is S for tube end, M for NPT male, F for NPT female. Size is 2, 4, 6, 8, or 6M and 8M metric. Body style is UT, ET, TT, or none for straight. Example SPUV-S4-UT-SS.
Do these valves need a packing gland?
No. The standard SPUV and SBLV builds are packless and seal metal to metal, so they reach 600 F (315 C) and 850 F (454 C) with no elastomer limit. Some fluid escapes while open, and the SPUV discharge direction follows the cap.
Which documents and options ship with an order?
Material certificates for body and wetted parts and dimensional inspection records are issued when requested on the order, and part markings match the packing list. Third-party or buyer inspection can be arranged. BSPT ends take the R suffix; metric ends are 6 mm and 8 mm.
